Pekanbaru, Riau (Antarariau.com) - The province of Riau recorded a 42.91 percent rise in imports to US$138.55 million in October, from US$96.95 million in September , 2016 the Central Bureau of Statistic (BPS) said.

Head of the provincial office of BPR Aden Gultom attributed the rise to 631.71 percent surge in the imports of oil and gas.

Its imports of other commodities declined 1.69 percent in October, Aden said here on Saturday.

He said cumulatively in the first 10 months of the year imports of Riau totaled US$1.12 billion or down 4.05 percent from US$1.17 billion in the same period last year.

The decline followed a 13.93 percent fall in oil ans gas imports and a 1.81 percent fall in the imports of other commodities.

In October, the sharpest fall in the imports of non-oil/gas commodities is recorded in the imports of machines and mechanical devices, fertilizers and paper and carton paper.

Meanwhile increase was recorded in the imports of ships, wood pulp, and inorganic chemicals.

Riau s imports on the first 10 months of 2016 were dominated by machines or mechanical devices, fertilizers and wood pulp.
