Pekanbaru, Riau, Sept 25 (Antarariau.com) - The police in Sumatras province of Riau have named 58 suspects over forest and land fires in the region, including a corporate official operating in the plantation sector.

Head of the Public Relations Division of the provinces police command, Adjunct Senior Commissioner Guntur Aryo Tejo, informed Antara here on Friday that 10 new suspects had been named by the police in Siak, Bengkalis, Indragiri Hulu, Indragriri Hilir, Meranti, Kampar, and Rokan Hulu districts in the past week.

"The Kampar resort police named the biggest number of suspects, totaling four, in connection with the fires in Rimbo Panjang," he stated.

He noted that the 58 suspects were mostly caught red-handed by the police from January to September 24.

He remarked that 43 cases involving the 58 suspects were still under the process of criminal investigation, while 22 others had been completed and their dossiers had been submitted to the prosecutors office, and another one was under the Stage I process.

The resort police had named six suspects each in Bengkalis, Siak, and Kampar; nine each in Indragiri Hulu and Indragiri Hilir; five each in Rokan Hilir and Rokan Hulu; two each in Meranti and Dumai; and seven in Pelalawan.

Meanwhile, the directorate of special criminal investigation of the Riau police command named Frans Katihokang, the operations manager of PT Langgam Inti Hibrido, as a suspect in connection with a fire that broke out on 533 hectares of the companys plantation land in Pelalawan on Wednesday (Sept. 16).
