President To Sign Decree On Asian Games 2018

Jakarta, (Antarariau.com) - President Joko Widodo is set to sign a decree on Wednesday that will allow Indonesia to host Asian Games 2018 and make preparations for the same, Sports and Youth Minister Imam Nahrawi said.

"We are trying to find a CEO for the event because we want to issue tenders for all the activities related to organizing the event," Nahrawi stated at his office here on Tuesday.

He made the statement after receiving Surinamese Youth and Sports Minister Ismanto Adna who has come to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for promoting cooperation in the fields of sports and youth affairs.

The minister noted that the government will call tenders for the construction of venues and programs related to Asian Games 2018 and that it will not get too directly involved in the project.

President Joko Widodo earlier held a limited meeting at the Presidential Office here on Thursday (March 19) to discuss preparations for the 18th Asian Games.

The President remarked that the most important factor to be taken into account before hosting the event is setting up an organizing committee.

"Only by setting up an organizing committee can all sides work to make preparations for the construction of venues and the signing of contracts. It will also allow the private sector to involve in preparations for Asian Games," he added.

Indonesia has been appointed as the host of the 18th Asian Games after Vietnam withdrew its bid for financial reasons.
