Pekanbaru To Build 250-Mw Capacity Gas Fired Power Plant

Pekanbaru, Riau (Antarariau.com) - The gas fired power plant (PLTG) to be built in this Riau capital city with a capacity of 250 megawatts could cope with shortage in power supply in the province.

The project to be built in Tenayan Raya , Pekanbaru is in the process of tender, director of Perusda Pembangunan Pekanbaru, Heri Susanto, said here on Wednesday.

Heri said he was confident the 250 MW plant would be able to cover the shortage in electric energy supply in Riau especially in peak load .

So far Riau has relied on supply from West Sumatra through interconnection system, he said.

The power generating capacity of Riau dropped sharply after the hydropower plant of PLTA Koto Panjang in Kampar with a capacity of 114 MW stopped operation on falling volume of water to feed the power plant.

Currently power plants in Riau has a total capacity of only 274.9 MW including PLTG Teluk Lembu in Pekanbaru with a capacity of 145.2 MW and Balai Pungut in Duri, Bengkalis 129.7 MW.

Heri said his company has agreed to cooperate with PT Indojaya Nusantara Investama to take part in tender to build a PLTG with a capacity of 420 MW in Tenayan Raya.

Indojaya agreed to pay all cost of Rp4 trillion for the PLTG project which will occupy a location of 10 hectares.

The two company would establish a joint venture company to be named PT Sarana Pekanbaru Energi to run the project with Indojaya to have the majority share of 90 percent and Perusda Pembangunan having the remaining 10 percent.

The construction of the 250 MW power plant will take 22 months and gas would supplied from Palembang," Heri said.
