Pekanbaru, Riau, Feb 17 (Antarariau.com) - The Culture and Tourism Office of Pekanbaru city in Riau Province has set a target to attract 25 thousand tourists this year, an official stated.
"We are optimistic that Pekanbaru will receive 25 thousand tourists based on the assumption that haze from forest fires will no longer occur as was the case in the province in the previous years," local Culture and Tourism Office Chief Hermanius remarked here on Tuesday.
He expressed hope that the flow of tourists to Pekanbaru would return to normal this year without being affected by haze caused by forest fires as various efforts will be made by the Pekanbaru city administration to attract more tourists.
According to Hermanius, the popular Petang Megang traditional ceremony this year will be packaged in a way that can draw both local and foreign tourists.
He pointed out that the Petang Megang traditional ceremony had been held in Pekanbaru since the days of the Siak Empire to welcome the Muslim fasting month.
