Pekanbaru, May 3 (ANTARA) - A crude oil tanker was reported to have exploded in the Malacca Strait between the border of Bengkalis in Riau Province and Tanjung Balai Asahan, North Sumatra. "We heard from one of operators of PT Pertamina that a tanker has exploded in the Malacca Strait waters at the border between Bengkalis and Tanjung Balai Asahan," a team leader of the Bengakalis Marine Police Unit, first adjunct inspector Marton, told ANTARA here on Monday.
He said according to the information he recieved the incident occured at around 10pm. He said he could not as yet confirm the location of the incident or possible victims in it.
He said dozens of personnel from the Marine Police Unit of Bengkalis were leaving for the location by two boats.
"It was reported the explosion was huge with the flame could be seen from a radius of 10 kilometers. I could not as yet tell if there were casualties in the incident," he said.
