Pekanbaru - Energy company PT Kalila, a member of Energi Mega Persada (EMP) group, plans to open new gas fields in Riau province to produce gas for the domestic market, one of the company's executives said.

"PT Kalila will also open a new gas field, namely Bentu field located in Kampar district, Riau proovince," Heru Hardono, Energi Mega Persada's general affairs manager, said here on Thursday.

Energi Mega Persada (EMP) is affiliated to the Bakrie Group. So far Kalila had been exploiting gas in Pelalawan district but it plans to develop new fields in Kampar.

According to Heru, gas from the Bentu field can be used to meet domestic needs.

He said the gas could be sold to state-owned electricity company PLN or regional companies as fuel for power generation.

"The sales process is still in the stage of negotiations," Heru said.

In addition, Kalila is currently enlarging the production capacity of its Seng Gas Plant (SGP) in Pelalawan.

Kalila is also building a network of 52 kilometers along the production pipeline to supply gas from the Seng Segat field of 30 Million of Standard Cubic Feet per Day (MMSCFD) to PLN's power plant in Lembu Gulf, Pekanbaru.

"It is scheduled to be in production in late 2012," Heru said.
