Pekanbaru, Riau (Antarariau.com) - The number of hotspots detected on Sumatra Island on Monday morning dropped drastically to only two, compared to 18 on the previous day.

"This morning, satellites found two hotspots in Sumatra. Yesterday (Sunday), the satellites detected 18 hotspots in three provinces," Slamet Riyadi, spokesman of the Pekanbaru meteorology station, said here, Monday.

North Sumatra and Riau had one hotspot each. On Sunday, Riau had seven hotspots, while North Sumatra had only one.

In Riau, the only hotspot was found in Gaung Anak Serka Sub-district, Indragiri Hilir District, with an accuracy rate of forest fire at 65 percent.

A Sikorsky helicopter has been deployed over the past five days to extinguish forest fires in the Rimbo Panjang area, Tambang Sub-district, Kampar District, Riau Province.

Kampar has been given priority because it is located on the border of Pekanbaru, the capital of Riau, where Sultan Syarif Kasim II Airport is located, according to Air Force Major Ferry Duwantoro of the Forest Fire Emergency Task Force.

A total of 750 tons of water were dropped over Kampar by the helicopter by Saturday (Oct. 8).
