Pekanbaru, Riau, May 1 (Antarariau.com) - The Riau provincial police deployed 3,400 personnel to secure the commemoration of International Labor Day or May Day on Sunday.
"The thousands of personnel have been stationed in a number of points that become the center of activities to mark the labor day," spokesman for the Riau provincial police Adjunct Senior Commissioner Guntur Aryo Tejo said.
They were placed at several points in the province to anticipate, prevent and deal with the possibility of security disturbance during the commemoration of the labor day, he said.
He said the labor day was commemorated in a number of areas in the province.
In the provincial capital of Pekanbaru, several activities, including a music show in car-free day zone on Jl. Gajah Mada would highlight the commemoration of the labor day, he said.
"To secure the commemoration of the labor day there we have deployed 900 personnel from the Pekanbaru city police and the Riau provincial police," he said.
In Dumai municipality, a number of activities including seminar would be held to commemorate the labor day, he said.
Guntur expressed the hope that all activities held to commemorate the May Day would run peacefully.
