Pekanbaru, Riau, Feb 18 (Antarariau.com)- Floods have inundated 7,199 hectares of paddy fields in three districts in Riau Province since early this year.
The farmers had failed to harvest paddy in a total of 3,006 hectares (ha) of rice fields, while another 111 ha were destroyed, Hardison of the Riau provincial agriculture office stated here, Thursday.
The affected districts are Kuantan Singingi (Kuansing), Kampar, and Rokan Hulu.
The local agriculture office will provide paddy seeds to the farmers affected by flooding.
The Pakanbaru meteorological office has forecast that the peak of the rainy season will occur during the period between March and April this year.
The office has alerted districts, which are prone to the natural disaster, to brace for floods and landslides.
