Kuantan Sangingi, Riau, Nov 30 (Antarariau.com)- Floods inundated hundreds of houses in some villages in Kuantan Singingi District, Riau Province, as the rivers overflowed following incessant heavy rains.

"Some residents have moved to safer places. As the rivers overflowed, several houses are submerged in floodwaters," Novrion from the Logas Tanah Darat Sub-district noted in Teluk Kuantan, Monday.

Floodwaters have reached a height of up to 1.5 meters in the residential areas, he stated.

Reflizal, a flood victim, urged the local authorities to repair the irrigation system and river basin areas to mitigate the impact of flooding.

"If such a huge volume of water is managed properly, then the river currents could be used to generate electricity," he explained.

Among the flood-affected sub-districts are Gunung Toar, Sebrang Taluk, and Muara Lembu.

In West Sumatra Province, floods inundated Nagari Pangkalan, Lampuluh Kota District, on Sunday (Nov. 29) following incessant heavy rains since Saturday evening.

Some residential areas, particularly in Jorong Sopang, were inundated, with floodwaters reaching a height of up to a meter, Head of the Limapuluh Kota disaster mitigation office (BPBD) Nasriyanto remarked here, Sunday.

The roads connecting the provinces of West Sumatra and Riau are also flooded.
