Riau Promotes Tourism Potential At IMT-GT Meeting

Pekanbaru, Riau, (Antarariau.com) - The Riau provincial administration promoted its tourism potential at the 8th meeting of Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) on tourism in Pekanbaru on Wednesday.

The acting Governor of Riau, Arsyadjuliandi Rachman, said the meeting should be used optimally to promote, as well as invite participants to consider the tourism potential of Riau, which consists of historical and cultural attractions, and culinary tours.

"In Taluk Kuantan city, there is the tourist attraction of Pacu Jalur. This event is a traditional annual event held in Riau and is deeply rooted in the Kuantan Singingi community," he said.

He also explained the origins of Pacu Jalur as Riaus traditional rowing boat races. The boat has a length of around 25 to 40 meters and one wooden boat can carry 40 to 60 people.

"Pacu Jalur has been scheduled in the national tourism calendar," Rachman said.

He hoped that the tourist potential of Riau could be one of the main topics discussed at the IMT-GT meeting.

The three country-meeting discussed 14 topics, namely organizing an international home stay promotional fair, IMT-GT old town heritage, the Sabang international marine festival, the IMT-GT tourism trail and diving attractions/destinations, and the IMT-GT local food festival.

In addition, the international kite festival in Malaysia, the magic journey along the route traversed by Luang Pu Tuad, health tourism in the IMT-GT area, yachting linkages study, convergence meetings with WGIT, IMT-GT archeology workshop, and IMT-GT marine tourism study site were also discussed.

"We hope that the people of Malaysia and Thailand can learn more about the potential of tourism and investment in Riau," Rachman said.
