Pekanbaru, Riau, (Antarariau.com) - Natural Resources Conservation Center (BBKSDA) of Riau is investigating the findings of trails of Sumatran tiger (Panthera tigris sumatrae) in the rubber plantation area of Koto Tuo Village, XIII Koto Kampar Sub-district.
Head of Riau BBKSDA, Suharyono, stated here on Tuesday that the investigation team was currently in the location to gain information, after some tiger trails were spotted by the local community.
"Temporary checks showed that the trails are those of Sumatran tigers, but we continue to investigate it," he noted.
Suharyono revealed that the trails were found in two spots around the location. It is expected that the trail is that of an adult Sumatran tiger.
Meanwhile, in addition to continuing to investigate the existence of the protected animals, BBKSDA of Riau team has also tried to prevent the public from carrying out excessive acts.
"We have ordered the public to avoid panic and have provided them an understanding of the right action to be taken when facing a tiger," he explained.
Furthermore, BBKSDA of Riau, along with the community, has also planned to place a tiger trap with bait, in the form of meat, around the trail findings.
The findings of the tiger trail were previously viral in social media.
According to the information received, the tiger's trails were found on July 4, 2018. The findings were then uploaded by some residents on social media.
In fact, residents claimed to be extremely worried about the presence of the tiger named called "Datuk" in the Kampar region.
This is not the first time that tigers have entered the settlements and plantations of local residents. Earlier, Bonita, an adult tigress became famous after the Indonesian Military and Police were on the hunt for the missing tiger for three months.
Bonita had killed two people in the palm oil plantation area in Indragiri Hilir district, before being finally successfully caught and brought to Dharmasraya, West Sumatra Province.
