Pekanbaru, Riau (Antarariau.com)- Sixteen hotspots indicating wildfires were detected in Riau Province, on Friday, according to Pekanbaru s meteorology office.
"The hotspots were found in Bengkalis, Indragiri Hilir, Indragiri Hulu, Meranti, Pelalawan and Siak districts," Slamet Riyadi of the Pekanbaru meteorology office, said.
Bengkalis had seven hotspots, Indragiri Hilir three, Meranti four, Pelalawan four, Siak two and Indragiri Hulu two.
Of the 16, seven hotspots were confirmed to have come from forest and plantation fires.
From January to July 2017, a total of 548.72 hectares of forest, bush, peatland and plantation areas had been gutted by fires in the province.
"We are currently anticipating spreading of the fires as drought is going," he said.
