Pekanbaru, Riau, (Antarariau.com) - Chairman of the Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI), Din Syamsuddin suggests the government to accept hundreds of Rohingya Muslims Ethnic from Myanmar, who are currently stranded in Aceh to live in the country.
"There are provisions indeed, but I am personally delighted to welcome Rohingya in Indonesia as they are stateless and Muslims. Indonesia can help the refugees as there are many uninhabited islands in the country," he said here Monday night.
According to him, out of 17 thousand islands in Indonesia only half are inhabited. One island alone is enough for them to continue their live, he said.
"It is a good choice. I am among those who agree Indonesia accepts Rohingya. But it does not need a petition, just submit the idea to the president," he said.
Syamsuddin said there will be consequences because once the way is opened, the refugees will flock to come to Indonesia. Moreover, Indonesia currently still has a lot of problems too.
He urged Muslims and community organizations, which are close to the refugees sites, such as in Aceh, North Sumatra and Riau Islands to help the Rohingya.
Moreover, they are Muslims, Syamsuddin said.
Syamsuddin appreciates the efforts of local communities to help the Rohingya refugees.
According to him Rohingya are the most miserable people because they do not have citizenship.
Whereas, historically Rohingya people have been living in Myanmar for long time, even some of them have already become the government leaders in Yangon.
About a week ago some 600 Rohingya stranded in North Aceh.
Initially they were going to Malaysia, but deceived by the boat provider and bobbing at sea until Aceh fishermen rescued them.
