Pekanbaru, Riau, March 31 (antarariau.com) - A wild monkey attacked and killed a six-month old baby in Menaming village, Rambang Sub-district, Rokan Hulu District, Riau province, on Friday (28/3), a village head said.
"It was a horrible and sad event for the baby's family," Menaming Village Head Firdaus Daulay said here on Sunday.
Firdaus said that Rahayu, the baby's mother, left her sleeping baby alone in a swing at home and went to wash dishes at a nearby river when the monkey attacked the baby.
The sad event was first encountered when the baby's 51 years old grandmother Santi, went home and found her grandchild in a saddening condition. The baby was dead with broken neck and several cuts in the head.
Near from the baby, Santi saw a monkey was sitting on the television set with blood in its mouth.
Santi screamed for help startling the neighbors, and the local residents hunted the wild animal.
"Surprisingly, when the monkey was aware that it was being chased by residents, it turned back and surrendered as if it was pleading guilty," Firdaus said.
The local people shot dead the ape and burned it, he said.
