Dumai, Raiu, July 7 (ANTARA) - The volumes of crude palm oil (CPO) and its down-stream products exported through the Dumai port, Riau, in the January - May 2011 period were recorded at 1.62 million tons, an official said.
Dumai port operator firm PT Pelindo I Spokesman Harlem Purba said here on Thursday that in January, the exports of crude palm oil and its down-stream products such as crude palm kernel OIL (CPKO), crude palm stearin (CPS), crude palm kernel olein (CPK Olein), RBD stearin, plam fatty acid destilizer (PFAD) and Plamata totaled 357.7 thousand tons.
But at the end of February the exports of these commodities dropped by 12 percent to 283.9 thousand tons and again dropped further in March to 164.3 thousand tons.
But in April, the volumes of CPO exports and its down-stream products jumped up to 357.5 thousand tons and again rose to 458.01 thousands in May.
"So, the total volumes of CPO exports and its downstream products in the January - May 2011 period were recorded at 1.62 million tons. This export realization is relatively big," he said.
He said that the realization of the commodities exports in the last five months almost reach half of the total exports of the goods in the previous year which stood at 3.43 million tons.
Indonesia is the world's biggest crude palm oil (CPO) producer with an annual production of about 20 million tons. In 2009, Indonesia's CPO production was predicted at 19.8 million to 20 million tons, an increase from 17 million to 18.6 million tons in the previous year.
With total oil palm plantations now recorded at 7.3 million hectares Indonesia could produce 21.5 million tons of palm oil. In 2020 the country expects to increase production to 40 million tons.
