Pekanbaru, Riau, Sept 15 (Antarariau.com) - Oil and gas from Rokan block, Riau, managed by PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia (CPI) still surpasses production of other Sumatran oil fields, Communication Manager CPI Sumatra Tiva Permata noted in a press release on Monday.
"Most of the oil and gas produced by CPI is derived from block Rokan, Riau, including the Duri and Minas fields, which are located in the block. Several small oil fields in Rokan block also play an important role in achieving the production targets set by the government," Tiva stated.
M. Lukman Edy, a member of the House of Representatives from Commission VI, earlier remarked that CPI has managed to find a new oil reserve in Rokan Hilir, Riau, which is estimated to be the largest in Southeast Asia.
Edy noted in the discussion recently organized by the National Awakening Party (PKB) in Jakarta.
In the discussion titled "The Threat of Deindustrialization and Trade Balance Deficit to the National Economy," Lukman emphasized that Indonesia should not worry about the oil and gas trade deficit.
He affirmed that Chevron has released details about its discovery of a new oil field found in Bagan Siapiapi, Riau, which has the largest reserves in Southeast Asia.
"Chevron continues to work closely with the government and the people to provide sustainable energy for the country," Tiva revealed.
Tiva elaborated that CPI has implemented the enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technology to maintain its production and increase oil recovery from the old oil fields.
Chevron seeks new opportunities in various regions of Indonesia to provide oil and gas energy as well as geothermal energy.
"As of now, Chevron operations in Indonesia have contributed about 40 percent of Indonesias oil production," Tiva pointed out.
Chevron is the largest geothermal energy producer in the world and has a large area of operations in Indonesia.
Geothermal energy is produced from the heat emanating from within the Earth and is capable of producing reliable electricity without causing any greenhouse gas effects.
The subsidiary dealing with this renewable energy resource, Chevron Geothermal, had earlier confirmed that the company has operated two geothermal projects in Indonesia in the areas of Darajat and Salak located on Java Island.
The Special Unit of Upstream Oil and Gas (SKK Migas) revealed that domestic oil production in the first half of 2014 reached 788 thousand barrels per day.
This amount is still below the target of oil production outlined in the revised state budget 2014, which is set at 818 thousand barrels per day.
