Pekanbaru, Riau (Antarariau.com) - As many as 93 hotspots were detected in three provinces - Riau, North Sumatra, and Aceh - on Sumatra Island on Tuesday.
The Terra and Aqua satellites detected 74 hotspots in Riau Province, 15 in North Sumatra, and four in Aceh, Slamet Riyadi, spokesman of the Pekanbatu meteorology station, said.
The data was released by Indonesia s National Institute of Aeronautics and Space (LAPAN).
In Riau, the hotspots were detected in seven districts and cities, namely Rokan Hilir (46), Rokan Hulu (11), Dumai (five), Bengkalis (five), Siak (four), Meranti Islands (two) and Kampar (one).
Since early this week, at least 230 hectare of peatland and plantation areas were gutted by fires, according to Riau Police.
