Five Public Order Officers Instigating Clash Face Dismissal

Pekanbaru, Riau, (Antarariau.com) - Five public order agency (Satpol PP) officers of Rokan Hulu district who have been named as suspects in a clash with their counterparts from the neighboring Kampar district may be sacked, an official stated.

"This is based on the result of the court trial which could sentence them to five years in jail," chief of the Riau provincial public order agency Noverius confirmed on Thursday.

The Riau provincial police have named the five Satpol PP officers as suspects for allegedly instigating the clash. They are identified by their initials as MP, SM, TH, RZ and OY.

If found guilty, they could be sentenced to up to five years imprisonment, spokesman of the Riau provincial police Adj. Snr. Comr. Guntur Aryo Tejo stated.

The five Satpol PP officers were allegedly involved in instigating the clash in the Tanah Datar village, on Wednesday evening (Jan. 29), in which seven cars were damaged and dozens of people were injured, he claimed.

Two other officers were released, as there was insufficient evidence against them, he pointed out.

According to the police, the clash was sparked off by the Kampar district governments plan to put up banners welcoming the social service ministers visit to the Tanah Datar village.

However, the Rokan Hulu district government sent hundreds of Satpol PP officers to the village to guard the local residents in their attempt at pulling down the banners.

The situation further aggravated when the Kampar district government also sent its Satpol PP officers to the scene, adding fuel to the fire.
