Dumai, April 5 (ANTARA) - Pinang Kampai airport in Dumai, Riau, has been closed temporarily again for the third time because of thick fog blanketing part of the area there.
Head of Bandara Pinang Kampai airport's operations Sayed Yoesmas Syahputra said here Tuesday the weather has now become worse with visibility reaching only 300 meters.
"On the day earlier visibility was still 500 meters, and the airport will be reopened if visibility had been restored to more than 2,000 meters," Sayed said.
He said the condition is almost the same as in the past two days in which flights had been delayed only for one schedule, namely for Foker 100 of Pelita Air which also carried some workers of PT Chevron Pasific Indonesia (CPI).
"The plane is already at Sultan Syarif Kasim (SSK) II airport, Pekanbaru, and planned to fly at 08.00 and arrives in Dumai at 08.45. But due to the unfavorable weather, the flight had been postponed to the next several hours," he said.
Sayed said the bad weather which forced to postponement of the flight schedule in the last three consecutive days has cost a great material loss.
Besides the loss suffered by the management of Pinang Kampai airport, Sayed said material loss may also has been suffered by a number of passengers of Pelita Air chartered by PT CPI.
