Chevron Pipeline Leak Not Affecting Oil Production

"There was no impact on production," Hanafi, CPI's communications manager, told the press here Thursday.
The incident on a production pipe occurred at around 6.00 a.m. local time in Tanah Putih Sub-District, Rokan Hilir District, he said.
The site was located 100 meters from the road linking Simpang Manggala and CPI's Bangko Camp, or around 100 kilometers north of the company's oil field in Duri, Bengkalis District, he said.
CPI field officers had come to the scene 30 minutes after the leak happened and were now working to stop the leakage, he said.
"We are committed to cleaning up the oil spill," he said.
The cause of the oil spill was now under investigation. However, the CPI official was unwilling to mention the volume of the spill oil and the loss due to the accident.
The spill was expected to be entirely overcome and the pipeline was to operate again normally by Thursday evening, he said.
The chief of Crime and Investigation Unit of Rohil Police Adjunct Commissioner Arif Hidayat Ritonga said the oil spill victims would be evacuated from the site of the bursting pipe.
Three houses of Anto, Sukidi and Yunus were covered with the crude oil.
The dark black oil spilled the walls, roofs and the yards.
The explosion injured Wanda (6) and Rini (16).
The children were badly injured as they covered by oil. The two had been taken to the Chevron medical center.
Wanda had been returned to her home as she did not suffer serious injury albeit some of her hair had to be cut because spilled with oil, he said.
