Priority Given For Isolated Areas In Power Generating Development

Pekanbaru, Riau (Antarariau.com) - The state-owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) said starting next year it would give priority to isolated areas in power generating development in Riau.

"Next year we would build three power generating plants in isolated areas," Human Right Manager of PLN for Riau and Riau Islands Dwi Suryo Abdullah said here on Tuesday.

In 2017, PLN plans to build a 30 megawatt gas fired power plant (PLTMG) in Tembilahan, Indragiri Hilir, 30-MW PLTMG in Kampar, and the Riau Peaker 200-MW steam gas power plant in Pekanbaru.

In 2018, PLN will build a 20-MW in Bengkalis, a 20-MW PLTMG in Selat Panjang in the Meranti islands, and a 250-MW PLTGU 250 MW in Riau.

"In 2019, at least two more power plants including a 14 MW PLTG/MG in Tembilahan, and a 600-MW coal fired power plant , Riau 1. would be builot," Dwi Suryo said.

Four districts in Riau - Bengkalis, Meranti, Rokan Hulu and Indragiri Hilir - have to relay on own power generating plants for electricity - as they have not been connected with the Sumatra interconnection system

"Until 2022, we would not stop building new power plants in Riau. PLTG/MG 6 MW in Rengat would be operational in 2020, PLTG/MG 6 MW in Tembilahan would come on line in 2020, and PLTGU 250 MW in Dumai would be on stream in 2022," Dwi Suryo said.

There are also biomass or bio fuel power plants with a capacity of 16 MW and garbage fueled power plant with a capacity of 10 MW," he added.

Manajer of 2x110 MW PLTU Tenayan Raya, Sugiharto, said earlier this month, one unit of the power plant came on line increasing the power transmission capacity in Riau.

"The power we produce is sent through two transmission systems one to Teluk Lembu, and another to Pasir Putih," he said.
