Jakarta (ANTARA) - Women's doubles pair Janice Tjen / Aldila Sutjiadi advanced to the quarterfinals of the prestigious WTA 1000 Madrid Open 2026 tennis tournament.

This certainty was obtained after the Indonesian pair eliminated Cristina Bucsa / Nicole Melichar - Martinez (Spain / United States) with 6-4, 6-2.

The WTA website stated that, competing in the last 16 on Court 5 La Caja Magica , Madrid on Sunday evening WIB, the Indonesian duo appeared confident and consistently dictated their opponents from the start of the match.

In the first set, Janice / Aldila quickly took a 2-0 lead. Although Bucsa / Melichar - Martinez fought back and equalized, they pulled away to a 5-2 lead.

But Busca / Melichar - Martinez lost two consecutive games to 5-4. However, Janice / Aldila rallied to close the first set 6-4.

In the second set, Janice / Aldila again raced to a 2-0 lead, despite the Spanish-American pair pressing back. Putting on a solid performance, the Indonesian duo pulled away 3-1, then 4-2, before closing the set 6-2 on Aldila's powerful serve .

In the quarterfinals they will face women's doubles Laura Siegemund / Vera Zvonareva (Germany/Russia), who eliminated top seeds Sara Errani / Jasmine Paolini .
